How It Works

What Happens After You Call

Most people have never hired a Christmas light company. Here is the entire process, in order, so you know exactly what you are agreeing to.

Start To Finish

The five stages, in order

  1. The South Custom Lighting truck and equipment trailer arriving at a North Texas property for a design walkthrough

    You Get A Number

You call or send the form. Bill comes out, walks the property with you, and gives you a real number. The visit is free and you are not committed to anything.

    Start here →
  2. A South Custom Lighting crew on ladders installing holiday lighting at a covered pavilion

    We Install

You approve the price and pick a date. A 30% deposit holds it. You do not need to be home, and most people come back to a lit house.

What install day looks like →
  3. A North Texas stone home with every peak lit in warm white, staying that way all season

    We Keep It Lit

If anything goes dark during the season, you call Bill and we come back out. There is no service fee and no argument about whose bulb it was.

    What is covered →
  4. An aluminum extension ladder set and footed at a lit tree on a North Texas property in daylight

    We Take It Down

We contact you after the season and schedule it. You do not have to remember, chase us, or get on a ladder in January.

    When it comes down →
  5. The South Custom Lighting equipment trailer loaded for the return trip to the company storage building

    We Store It

Your display goes to our building labeled with your job. Nothing lives in your garage, and next year is one phone call instead of starting over.

    Where it is kept →

The short version

You call. Bill comes out and gives you a real number. You approve it, a 30% deposit holds your date, and the crew installs. If anything goes dark we come fix it free. After the season we take it all down and store it at our building until next year.

The South Custom Lighting truck arriving at a North Texas property for the design walkthrough
Step One

The walkthrough, and why we insist on it

The first thing that happens is that Bill comes and looks at your house. Not a satellite image, not a guess off the square footage. He stands in the yard and counts what is there.

That takes about twenty minutes and it is the reason our number does not change later. He is looking at how many peaks the roof has, how many separate planes, how steep the pitch is, whether the second storey needs fall protection, where the nearest exterior outlet is, how many trees are worth wrapping and how big they actually are, and whether a gate or a slope is going to make the crew carry equipment the long way.

Every one of those changes the labor, and none of them are visible from a phone call. A company that quotes you before seeing the house is either padding the number to cover what it does not know, or it is going to revise it once the crew arrives. Neither is a good outcome for you.

You are not committing to anything by having the walkthrough, and there is no charge for it.

Step Two

Your number, and what it covers

You get a price for your specific house, and that price is the price. Most North Texas homes land between $1,000 and $2,500. Our minimum job is $1,000.

What is inside that number:

  • Commercial-grade lights, supplied and maintained by us
  • Design walkthrough before anything goes up
  • Insured professional install
  • Free fixes all season long
  • Takedown after the season
  • Off-season storage at our facility

What is not inside it: nothing. There is no takedown invoice in January, no storage fee, no trip charge when a bulb fails in December. If you are comparing us against another quote, that last part is the line worth checking, because takedown billed separately is the most common way a cheap quote stops being cheap.

Step Three

Install day

You approve the number and pick a date, and a 30% deposit holds it. Dates are assigned in the order they are booked, which is the honest reason to call early rather than a sales tactic.

On the day, the crew arrives with the display already planned. Strands are cut to your roofline on site rather than stretched to fit. Clips are chosen for the surface they attach to, which means no staples, no nails through fascia, and nothing screwed into the roof. On steep pitches the crew works roped to anchors.

You do not need to be home. As long as we can reach the outside of the house and get to an exterior outlet, the work happens without you. Most of our customers see the finished display for the first time when they pull into the driveway that evening.

Step Four

The season, and what happens if something fails

Lights fail. Wire gets chewed, a connection takes on water, a strand that was fine in November gives up the week before Christmas. Anyone who tells you it never happens has not hung many lights.

What matters is what happens next. You call Bill, we come back out, and we fix it. There is no service fee, no trip charge, and no conversation about whether it was our bulb or the weather.

We can promise that because we supplied the lights and our crew installed them, so we know exactly what is on your house and how old it is. It is also the reason we do not hang lights a customer already owns. The honest explanation is here.

Step Five

Takedown and storage, which you do not have to think about

After the season we contact you and schedule takedown. You do not have to remember to call, and you do not end up in January looking at a lit house wondering who is going to deal with it.

Takedown is the half of the job where damage usually happens, because it is cold and the roof is slick and the crew wants to be finished. The same rules apply as on install day: roped in on steep pitches, ladders footed properly, wet roofs wait.

Then the display comes back to our building, labeled with your job, and stays there until next season. Nothing takes up your garage. Nothing gets crushed in an attic. And because we have your exact display on the shelf, next year is a phone call rather than a fresh design, at your same pricing and ahead of new bookings.

Ready When You Are

Step one is a phone call.

Call (972) 658-0780 and you get Bill, or send the form and he will come back to you the same day.

Questions

Questions about the process

What do I do first?

Call (972) 658-0780 or send the quote form. Either one reaches Bill directly. You are not committing to anything by asking.

How long does the walkthrough take?

Usually about twenty minutes. Bill looks at the roofline, the trees, the power, and the access, and asks what you actually want lit. You get the number from that.

Do I have to decide on the spot?

No. Take the number and think about it. The only thing that moves is the calendar, and dates go in the order they are booked.

What locks in my date?

A 30% deposit. The balance is due once the display is up and you are happy with it.

Do I need to be home on install day?

No. Once the design is approved and we can reach the outside of the house, we can install while you are at work.

What if something goes wrong in December?

Call Bill. We come back out and fix it at no charge. That is the whole policy.

When does it come down?

After the season winds down, weather permitting. We reach out and schedule it, so you do not have to remember.

Where do my lights live the rest of the year?

In our building, labeled with your job. That is also why rebooking is fast: we already know your roofline and your bulb count.
